Sunday School
Meets Sunday mornings 9:15 a.m. September thru May
Teachers:
Preschool & Kindergarten: Patrice Hartman
1st & 2nd Graders: Susan Pankow (652-9234)
3rd & 4th Graders: Lois Bergquist (682-4945)
5th & 6th Graders: Bonnie Schultz (684-1892)
Whether you are a parent, pastor, teacher or a member
of Grace; God has blessed us with the special privilege and great
responsibility to nurture his children with his holy Word. The 2009-2010
Sunday School enrollment is 40 plus.
Sunday mornings begin with the children meeting
together in our music room with Erin Kolar, who has stepped in to coordinate
our children's musical contributions to the Sunday services. After music
the children go back to their respective learning areas to work through
lessons from the WELS "Christ Light" curriculum. Each lesson centers around
a bible story and allows teachers to individually incorporate their own
style of teaching to introduce and reinforce the lesson.
Our goal starting this year and from here forward is to
have our Sunday school self funded. This means that through your child's
weekly offerings we would purchase our Sunday school text and materials, and
any left over money would be given to an agreed upon Mission. A giving
cross has been posted to track our Sunday school offering totals. If you
need offering envelopes contact your child's teacher.
Teachers meet once a month with Pastor to discuss
issues regarding lessons, students, activities and expectations as the year
progresses. All of our teachers at Grace have been blessed with a God-given
dedication to helping each student know his word. We pray that all those
involved in our Sunday school from the students to the parents and including
the teachers will be lead by the Holy Spirit to eagerly want to become
involved in learning more about God's word as part of their daily lives.
We were blessed this year to have eight young people
volunteer to be Sunday school aides, which is much appreciated and is an
ongoing need. We are hoping that some of them will branch out to be
co-teachers in the near future. If any one wishes to be part of this
rewarding experience, please contact the pastor.

Youth Confirmation Pastor Pankow: (652-9234)
7th & 8th Graders: Dianne Stewart: (794-1447)
Our confirmation classes are broken down like this:
Pastor meets with the students for an hour on Wednesday evenings Sept
through mid May. He introduces lessons from a catechism based work book.
The students meet on Sundays with me to review the lesson, go over any
assigned homework and have the students recite their memory work.
Two times a year we invite the parents to participate
in a review trivia game that is held so anyone who wants to sit in can see
what our children are learning. We have found this is an exciting way to
encourage the parents to work together with their children to learn God's
word.

Church Library
I need help! As some of you may
know, I can no longer reach up and put books onto the bookshelves in the
library. So, if you can help – let me know. Or, if something else is
more to your liking, there are many tasks to be done. I can use help with
any or all of the following:
 |
Get new
books, CD’s, DVD’s, etc. ready for the shelves. That means making cards
for the books and putting them into pockets in the books. |
 |
Putting spine labels on the
books. |
 |
Putting pockets into the
books, CD’s, etc. |
 |
Stamp materials with the
“Grace Lutheran Church” stamp. |
 |
Rearrange books on shelves. |
 |
Put corner protectors on new
or worn paperback corners. |
 |
Advertize the library. |
 |
Make book displays and
bulletin boards. |
 |
Enter materials information
into the computer. |
 |
Print out cards for the books. |
 |
Check returned materials back
into the library. |
 |
Put returned materials back
onto the shelves. |
 |
Determine the Dewey Decimal
numbers for materials. |
 |
Maintain/update lists of
books, CD’s, DVD’s, video tapes, audio tapes, etc. |
 |
Put protectors on paperbacks. |
So far, there are almost
800 books, CD’s, DVD’s, etc. in the library. There are many more
that have been purchased for the library and need processing and logging
in. So, there is plenty to do.

Jesus’ Lambs of
Grace
It is hard to believe how fast a
year goes, and how much the children change. At the beginning of the school
year, all the children are measured, and now again at the end — some have
grown as much as two inches!
The children also draw a picture
of their family at the beginning of the school year, and again at the end of
the year. It is so interesting to see how their fine-motor skills and
eye-hand coordination have changed over the course of 9 months — some of
their families changed too this year — we’ve had 4 families expand by one
and we are waiting for two more little ones yet to come. The children all
write their names during their first week at school, and we save those to
compare side by side with their skill at writing their name now. Their
parents will get to take all those items home during the last day scavenger
hunt.
We’ll be gardening this summer thanks to Mr. Kevin Sielaff, Mr.
Lindner from Ace Hardware, Mr. Seiler from Seiler Construction and Jerry
Krueger from Lakeshore Landscaping for making that all happen. We’ll be
tending the garden, watering, weeding, harvesting, and hopefully enjoying
the fruits of our labors.
God’s Blessings! Ms. Debbi
Heiderich

VBS
Vacation
Bible School will be held August 9 - August 13. Our theme is
“High Seas Expedition,” an exciting and action-packed adventure through
God’s Word. We’re looking for decorations to transform our entire church
into a gigantic nautical world, complete with ships, treasure chests, and
other fun sea-faring decorations. If you’ve ever had a chance to see the
decorating done in years past, you know we REALLY like to decorate! It
really helps for kids to get into the fun so . . . the more, the better!!
Following
is a list of ideas for decorations. If you happen to have any of these
items at home that you would be willing to let us use for VBS week, please
drop them off in the church conference room by August 1. Be sure to
label any items you would like returned to you. You may pick them up again
in the same location any time after the end of the VBS week.
Anyone
wishing to make a monetary donation to be used toward decorating, supplies
(paint, brushes, building supplies, etc) may drop it off at the church
office during regular office hours. Thanks in advance for all your help.
We really appreciate it and so do the kids!!

MLHS Mission Statement: Manitowoc Lutheran High
School developes young adults spiritually, mentally, and physcially through a
Christ centered education. MLHS is part of the Wisconsin Evangelical
Lutheran Synod. WELS has supported Lutheran education for over 150 years
and its schools represent the nation's 4th largest private school system.
Cookbook
The MLHS Accents have put together a cookbook of favorite
recipes from the singers and their parents. The cookbook entitled “Singing for
our Supper” is available from $15 and can be purchased in the Script Office at
MLHS or by emailing Joel Ungemach at
jungemach@mlhslancers.com
What is Script
The purpose of script is to allow the consumer to support
MLHS while spending money on things they already do. You may purchase script
ahead of time and use it just like you would a gift card. How does it work? A
portion, designated by the participating business, is given to MLHS (example: if
the business is allowing 1.5% and your purchase $10 worth of script the school
gets $.15 and the remaining $9.85 goes to the business, who in turn writes off
that $.15 as a tax deduction).
Check with the church office for a complete listing of
participating businesses or contact the Script office 682-0215 ext 189 or email
the office @
script@mlhslancers.com for more information.
